The Weight of Rain (The Weight of Rain, #1) by Mariah Dietz
This is my first book by Mariah Dietz and it won't be my last.
I really enjoyed The Weight of Rain. I felt connected with the characters from the start, even the not so nice ones. I was 30% in and I literally had no idea where the story was headed, which is the sign of a good author. I was captivated as to who the mystery man was that was spoken about so much, in saying that, this review will be hard to write, considering, if I name him, I'll feel I've spoiled the surprise for you.
There are 2 themes throughout the book, art and BMX riding, both of which have been very well researched by the author and the art side of it in particular was beautiful to read. Mariah's descriptive style had me picturing Lo's (the main character) drawings in my head each time they were mentioned.
The connection between Lo and her mystery man are sometimes strained and a bit hard to follow. One minute they are close and the next they are finding ways to start an argument, which I found a bit frustrating.
I loved the supporting characters! Namely, Kash, Mercedes and Summer. Even though these last 2 mentioned were difficult to get along with at the start, they worked their way into Lo's (and my) heart after getting to know them better.
All in all, The Weight Of Rain is a good book that I thoroughly enjoyed and I will be recommending to friends. A solid 4 star rating for me.
